News: MXGP of Portugal

Following a tricky time at the Grand Prix of Patagonia-Argentina, the third round of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship, the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing leapt back into action at the fourth round this past weekend. Kay de Wolf was the sole rider underneath the awning in Agueda, Portugal, as Roan van de Moosdijk is recovering from the injuries sustained a fortnight ago.

For de Wolf, who is still not quite at full fitness, the Grand Prix of Portugal provided an opportunity to stack some solid points on the board. The race started in a rather consistent manner for him; he put in solid laps throughout the qualifying heat to eventually hit the chequered flag in fourth. There was even a pass on the very final lap to secure that position!

De Wolf was calculated, smart and showed experience beyond his years in the first moto on Sunday. Eighth was the position that he ended lap one in and, assessing the situation up ahead, he carefully picked his way through the riders to eventually secure third at the chequered flag. It was a brilliant effort and one that set a positive tone heading into moto two.

Although de Wolf could not quite find the same rhythm in the second moto, he still battled on to salvage a sixth and secure fourth in the overall classification. Two measly points separated him from a position on the podium. Quite the achievement, considering everything that has gone on over the last two weeks. De Wolf has climbed to sixth in the championship standings now as well.

The Grand Prix of Trentino is next for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing. The hard-pack venue of Pietramurata will host round five of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship on April 09/10.
