News: MXGP of Italy

Kay de Wolf was alone underneath the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing awning again this past weekend; Jeremy Sydow missed the Grand Prix of Italy, round seven of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship, after a practice fall left him with a sore shoulder. De Wolf represented the squad well on the historic hillside that has played host to so many legendary moments.

The fabulous Italian event was hit by poor weather across the weekend; heavy rainfall transformed the circuit ahead of the main motos on the programme. Such treacherous conditions provided a platform for de Wolf to learn, as he showed impressive speed and also struggled with minor mistakes. Multiple crashes in moto one left him in ninth in the first moto, despite the fact that he showed top three speed at points, but he was eager to make progress when the second moto fired into life.

Although there was another small crash in the second moto, de Wolf looked poised on the slick surface and raced to fourth place. There were some impressive lap times throughout the moto that served as a reminder of his true potential aboard his FC 250. Unfortunately, a 9-4 scorecard caused him to miss out on a spot on the overall podium. Fifth was where he was classified at the conclusion of the Grand Prix. Following the seventh round of the current term, he sits fourth in the championship standings and just five points from third.

The bottomless sand awaits now! The Grand Prix of Sardegna, run at the familiar venue of Riola Sardo, will fire into life this coming weekend.

Kay de Wolf: “It was a difficult day. It was really muddy in the morning! I did not have a very good start in the first moto and was lucky that a few people crashed. I was in third or fourth, but I made a small mistake. I had to fight back and then I crashed two more times. We learnt from that, so the second moto was a lot better. I still had a small crash in that moto, unfortunately, but I fought back to fourth. I was pretty happy with that. It was a big learning day.”
