News: MXGP of Indonesia

Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing made the long trip to Samota-Sumbawa, Indonesia, for round twelve of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship. Kay de Wolf continued to work towards his best form at the new circuit, which welcomed thousands of passionate fans who were eager to get a glimpse of their heroes.

Riding a wave of momentum after a dominant showing at a domestic race in The Netherlands last weekend, de Wolf was on top form in the qualifying race on Saturday and fought for the victory. Unfortunately, an untimely error dropped him out of the top three. ’74’ was able to recover to claim sixth and a strong position on the starting line for today’s races.

Unfortunately, an illness took control on Saturday evening and left de Wolf facing an uphill battle when the motos fired into life. The speed was clear for all to see in moto one – he ran third quite comfortably, before a couple of crashes left him in eighth at the chequered flag. Solid points were secured, despite those health issues, and he really gave it everything that he had. So much so that the decision was made to not take part in moto two; the sickness had simply taken too much out of him. It was a valiant effort from the young star and shows just how badly he wants to compete at the front aboard his FC 250.

The Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing squad will enjoy a summer break now, before heading to the Grand Prix of Czechia that will be run on July 17. That will be round thirteen of the current season.

Rasmus Jorgensen (Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing Team Manager): “It is obviously disappointing to be dealt more bad luck, but Kay’s health comes first and missing the second moto was the best move considering just how sick he is. It was great to see his speed on show in moto one. We will focus on turning that into a strong result at the next round.”
