News: MXGP of Trentino

The Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing team entered the Grand Prix of Trentino, the fifth event of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship, with the goal of building on the rather solid showing that Kay de Wolf had in Portugal. De Wolf continued his bid to return to one hundred percent with another impressive outing on the hard-pack Pietramurata layout.

Saturday’s qualifying heat was another step in a positive direction for de Wolf, who started on the cusp of the top five and set out to make progress. The thirteen-lap heat caught a lot of riders off guard, yet de Wolf climbed to second by the time that the chequered flag waved and ensured that he would have a good gate pick for the motos that pay points.

Sixth in moto one was a strong result on paper, of course, but even more impressive once you consider the progress that ’74’ had to make on a one-lined track; he started in the lower half of the top fifteen and made calculated moves to progress to that ranking at that chequered flag. Confidence was very high as moto two beckoned in front of a passionate crowd.

That momentum served de Wolf well in the second moto, as he ripped a much better start and immediately slotted into second place. After shadowing the leader for a number of laps, and attempting to make a pass on the tricky track, he eventually reached the finish line in the runner-up spot, which put him in the same position on the overall podium! The Grand Prix of Trentino marked his second trip onto the box this season and helped him progress to fifth in the championship standings.

Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing will recharge now, as the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship will resume on April 23/24 in Latvia. Kegums will host the sixth round of twenty.

Kay de Wolf: “I am pretty happy to be back on the podium! I am still not back to one hundred percent, after Argentina and those tough few weeks, but this is a great step forward. I actually struggled with the track on Saturday, but we made some great changes and I felt so strong today. We will be back to battle again in Latvia.”
