Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing battled through bitter cold and treacherous mud in Switzerland, as Liam Everts returned to the MX2 podium and Kay de Wolf impressed again in MXGP.
Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing overcame brutally demanding conditions at round three of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship, as the MXGP of Switzerland delivered a classic race-day of cold, muddy and technical racing at Frauenfeld. On one of the oldest venues on the calendar, Liam Everts secured his first MX2 podium of the season with third overall, while Kay de Wolf narrowly missed out on silverware in MXGP with an outstanding fourth overall finish in just his second premier-class Grand Prix.
After a dry qualifying day, heavy rain transformed Sunday into a true old-school test. The Frauenfeld circuit became hugely challenging, with sticky clay over a hard, stony base, temperatures around five degrees, and a bitter wind throughout.
Everts had already shown strong speed on Saturday, recovering from a fall to finish sixth in qualifying. In moto one, he fought forward from outside the top six, briefly moved into fifth, then rebounded from a mistake to charge into third in the closing laps. He underlined his pace by setting the fastest lap of the race on lap 14.
Moto two was another strong ride. Everts narrowly missed the holeshot and immediately settled into second, where he applied constant pressure to leader Guillem Farres. He also set the fastest lap of the race on lap six (1:47.807), steadily reducing the gap and crossing the line just three tenths of a second short of victory. His 3-2 scorecard secured third overall, his first podium of the season, and also lifts him to fifth in the MX2 standings; while Husqvarna moves up to third in the manufacturers’ classification.
De Wolf continued his impressive switch to MXGP despite still recovering from a thumb injury. After qualifying sixth, he delivered two composed rides in brutal conditions. In moto one, he progressed from seventh to fifth with a clean move on Andrea Adamo, maintaining a strong, consistent pace to the finish.
In moto two, de Wolf again built into the race, moving into fourth on lap 14 with a pass on Romain Febvre. He closed to within 1.5 seconds of Jeffrey Herlings in the fight for third with two laps remaining, but despite a strong late push through traffic, he finished fourth – just missing the podium.
Fourth overall in Switzerland moves de Wolf from 15th to 10th in the championship standings after only two MXGP appearances, capping a highly encouraging weekend for the team. With a weekend break now ahead, attention turns to the MXGP of Sardegna on April 12, followed by an intense run of European rounds including Trentino, France and Germany.
#74 – Kay de Wolf: “It was a really tough weekend with the conditions because the track was so sketchy and demanding, especially on Sunday. For me, to come away with fourth overall in only my second MXGP and while still dealing with the thumb is something I can be happy with. I’m still learning every time I go out with these guys, but I felt more comfortable as the weekend went on and I could fight right at the front. Missing the podium is never the best feeling, but there are a lot of positives to take from this one and we’ll keep building.”
#26 – Liam Everts: “Coming into the weekend, it was very much about damage limitation – I’m still really hurting with the ankle. I think we did a really good job, coming close to winning the GP, which was quite unexpected. I’m definitely really happy, but at the same time it hurts, you know? You never want to lose out – especially coming that close at the end. It is what it is. We scored great points for the championship, and it’s a long season ahead. It’s been a tough few weeks, but we push through it and go again in two weeks.”
