Successful GP of Lombardy For Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing with a win and a second

Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna Racing enjoyed a very successful outing during the ninth round of the MX2 motocross world championships at Mantova. Jed Beaton scored his first ever GP heat victory, helping him to second overall, and Thomas Kjer Olsen returned to the top step of the podium.

Both riders were in from during qualifying, Thomas qualified third, with Jed just a tad behind in fourth. Both riders got away well in the first race. Thomas had to find his way from sixth, and Jed was just inside the top ten initially. Thomas quickly worked his way to fourth and launched an attack for third. When the second rider committed an error, Thomas was there to capitalize and finished in second spot. Jed got into seventh but just could not pass Ben Watson to move further ahead.

The roles were reversed in race two. Jed got the better start and formed part of the leading group. He immediately went on the offensive for the lead. He opened up a gap which shrank again as he got in among back markers, but he kept his cool and collected his first ever victory. Thomas patiently worked his way from ninth to fourth, sufficient for the overall victory.

Jed Beaton “After the first race I did not dare dream that I could end up on the overall podium. I got a good start in the second race, and immediately pounced on Ben Watson for the lead. I could open up a small gap in the lead, but Ben came uncomfortably close again when I got caught in among back markers. I am ecstatic about this victory and the overall podium, and happy for the team for such a successful day.’’

Thomas Kjer Olsen: ‘’It was a tough outing for me, and particularly int he seond race I really had to battle hard for 30 minutes. After all the setbacks of early in the season it feels good to win again. It is also great that Jed had a fantastic outing and that we could both be on the podium”.

Olsen was called to the top step of the podium with his 2 -4 finishes, just ahead of teammate Jed. The latter has further solidified his fourth spot in the world standings, and Thomas has moved up to sixth. The series continues at the same track on Wednesday.
