News: MXGP of Finland

Following a turbulent term, momentum is starting to build beneath the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing awning. The FC 250 stars tackled the sixteenth event of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship, the Grand Prix of Finland, earlier today. The sandy Hyvinkää circuit returned to the Grand Prix schedule for the first time since 2014.

It was easy to keep track of the team in the first MX2 moto. Fox Racing supplied the duo with a striking set-up, first of all, and then the pair were joined at the hip for a lot of the stint. Kay de Wolf took the best result out of the two, as he eventually worked his way around Roan van de Moosdijk to get third in moto one. It was an exciting race; Moosdijk chased him over the finish in fourth and completed a solid start to the event.

It was Moosdijk who stole the show early in moto two, as he leapt into the early lead and looked composed at the head of the field. ’39’ was riding perfectly and extending his advantage over the chasing pack, whilst de Wolf was attempting to pass a former champion to progress into the runner-up spot. It seemed as though a 1-2 finish was on the cards, but Moosdijk made an untimely mistake and dropped to third with just a couple of laps to go. The error knocked him off the podium – he had to settle for fourth overall via 4-3 scores.

De Wolf was engaged in a thrilling duel for the win after Moosdijk’s mistake. Clearly the fastest rider in the field, he tried everything to steal the moto win on the narrow track. Conditions were at their toughest and he excelled – the effort was clear for everyone to see. Unfortunately, he came up just short and was forced to settle for second in the moto and overall classification. The FC 250 duo put on an amazing display at the Grand Prix of Finland and made quite the statement.

The Grand Prix of Charente Maritime is next on the agenda for the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing team. St. Jean d’Angely is set to host the penultimate round of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship on August 21.

Kay de Wolf: “I ran out of time in that second moto. It was a difficult race; I really gave it my all and I just missed out in the end. I am happy with my riding and my feeling on my FC 250 though. I am looking forward to France next weekend. I just cannot thank the team enough – they are working so hard for us and I really appreciate it.”

Roan van de Moosdijk: “I had a good gate pick today. My start was not too bad in the first moto and I made some good passes early on. I struggled in the middle of the moto, because I need to get used to the intensity. Where do I even begin with the second moto? I took the lead and just did my own thing. I led for more than half the moto, but hit an edge in a corner and crashed. I am angry with myself. This is a big improvement though.”
